A. Licensing for real estate appraisers is mandated at the national level and implemented at the state level. All states have a regulatory board. Florida's board is here: Indiana's is here: Your first question is more difficult to answer. There is no national accreditation of appraisers, per se. Some appraisers seek out and earn designations from various national appraiser organizations such as The Appraisal Institute or the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers. Following the Savings and Loan debacle, the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA) saw increasing federal involvement in the training requirements for appraisers.
