What does it mean if a county agency wants to know if a business accepts County Vouchers for payment?
Q. I have a small business and was contacted by a county agency to know if I can accept a county voucher for payment. I don't know what that means... Thanks for your help.
Asked by jcrowleyii - Thu Dec 20 21:29:26 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would say one of two things... 1) Scam, and someone wants to give a voucher that you have no way to redeem 3) Legal, but likely this would be restricted to food or housing. Do you have an arrangement to accept vouchers? It sounds like you don't. Therefore I'd say no. However, if you are interested, ask them which authority would redeem the vouchers. If they have an answer, contact those people. If they have no answer, scam. Scam, obviously skip it. If it's legit, and you can make arrangements for redeeming vouchers, and it makes fiscal sense for you, go ahead. Those are basically your choices.

How does Gwinnett County handle going to non-reporting probation?
Q. I've been on Hall County and Gwinnett County Probation for the past year for underage consumption charges, and I just got off Hall County probation fairly simple.. Just mailed my last money order and that's it. My question is, I hear Gwinnett County makes you go to court to go on non-reporting, is there a drug test involved and if so, just a stick test? How do they handle that?

How can i get a Library to this county without raising taxes?
Q. Carter County Ky is one of the only counties in the U.S. without a public library. The County Commissioners voted not to raise taxes (.06%) for a library. I was wondering if there were another way.
Asked by slim415 - Wed Apr 30 17:23:51 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. See about issuing municipal bonds for funding the library construction. It will be a bit more expensive in the long run, because of interest payed on the bonds, but can provide all your funding. Perhaps you could also seek donations toward the library's construction from citizens in the county, since they will get the benefit.

What are the differences between state prison and county jail?
Q. I'm not talking about the fact that you go to jail for short sentences and awaiting trial and prison for longer sentences. Want to know if there is much difference for inmates between the 2. All I really know is about county jail where I did 6 months that seemed to last forever. I've not been in prison but that might happen if things work out bad. Some people in county said state was better as you weren't locked up as much, better programmes, better food, more visits etc. but I think county would be easier as people just want to get through it and get out without causing too much trouble.
Asked by Jamie C - Wed Feb 7 14:01:19 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. County jails usually hold people who are awaiting trial, or who have been sentenced to less than 1 year in prison; state prisons hold all persons convicted of offenses which carry more than a year sentence. State prisons usually have better programs, but only because the people serving time there have more time to participate in them.

A. You can't set fireworks in spokane county, howerever, if you go to Idaho; you can set them off any where as far as I know. I use to live in Rathdrum, Idaho and now I live in north spokane. I know spokane's laws are strict, but if you go to Idaho, or even deer park, you can set them off.

What route is faster to big bear from orange county this weekend?
Q. Taking into consideration that we had a lot of snow this past week and that it is a weekend and many people are going to hit the slopes, what route is faster... Orange county to big bear via the 330 - chains required, more traffic, shorter distance or Orange county to big bear via the 18 - chains optional, less traffic, longer distance. Does anyone have any experience driving this under these conditions?
Asked by Miskit - Fri Jan 25 22:53:55 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The front way is 330 to 18 through Running Springs. The back way is 38 to 18 through Forest Falls. Just so you know, chains are required on the 38 as well. If you get an early start, the most direct way is the fastest. Otherwise, you might want to go via 38. However, there is one route you didn't mention. If you take 15 north and take the Bear Valley cutoff to Lucerne Valley, you can avoid a lot of the mountain driving. It's definitely longer, but a good alternate on crazy weekends like this one. everyone wants to get on the mountain this weekend. I would wait a week.

Does anyone know about transferring property taxes from one home to another in a different county ?
Q. There was a law or code passed that allowed a person to sell their home and when they moved out of county they could keep the tax rate they had on the first home. This was only possible if the county they moved to cooperated with the county they moved out of. Does anyone know what counties allow this in California?
Asked by Jonesy - Mon Jun 16 23:27:55 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In some counties in California, you may be able to transfer the assessed value of your current home with a lower value, but worth more than the assessed value of the current home in the same county. This allows an elderly person or couple to downsize to a smaller home but not pay higher taxes. The county's tax loss on the new home are more than offset by the increased taxes from the old one. If anyone reading this is not from California, don't try it in your state unless you have a system like ours.

What is the best place in Orange County to buy home appliances?
Q. Looking for a new washer and dryer. What is the best place for price, delivery, financing, etc., in Orange County, CA? Sears, Best Buy, Home Depot?
Asked by Garrett - Sun Jul 15 16:27:58 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Costco is the cheapest, though it may not have all the brands. Sears have many brands to choose from, though not the cheapest. Try also Home Depot. Everywhere you go they'll try to get you to pay extra to sign up for extended warranty. Always decline that, because if it works during the normal warranty period, it will work much longer. Besides extended warranty is covered by the local shop, not the brand.

How can I evict a tenant in Cobb County who has filed backruptcy and won't pay rent?
Q. I have already filed the eviction with the county and got a judgment from a judge. Then I got another notice that a "stay" was issued since my tenants filed bankruptcy.
Asked by Suzie Q - Wed Jun 11 00:09:48 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I deal with this quite often. The BACK rent is included in the bankruptcy payment plan. The CURRENT rent going forward is to be paid by the tenants to you. If they don't, you can move forward with the eviction. I am constantly amazed by the number of people here who "advise" that a tenants utilities be turned off by the landlord. That's considered a self-help eviction, and can get you sued, arrested or both.
