What does it mean if a county agency wants to know if a business accepts County Vouchers for payment?
Q. I have a small business and was contacted by a county agency to know if I can accept a county voucher for payment. I don't know what that means... Thanks for your help.
Asked by jcrowleyii - Thu Dec 20 21:29:26 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would say one of two things... 1) Scam, and someone wants to give a voucher that you have no way to redeem 3) Legal, but likely this would be restricted to food or housing. Do you have an arrangement to accept vouchers? It sounds like you don't. Therefore I'd say no. However, if you are interested, ask them which authority would redeem the vouchers. If they have an answer, contact those people. If they have no answer, scam. Scam, obviously skip it. If it's legit, and you can make arrangements for redeeming vouchers, and it makes fiscal sense for you, go ahead. Those are basically your choices.

Can a county court judgement stop you moving country?
Q. I have a friend who is planning to move to Australia next year but he has a debt he hasn't paid off and may be taken to court over it and would then get a county court judgement. He is already a citizen of Australia but living here in the UK. Would the CCJ stop him from moving to Australia? He has every intension of paying the debt off once he starts his new life in Australia, thanks in advance for your answers.

A. If he is a citizen of Australia they cannot stop him from going home. A county court judgement is a civil judgement and has no effect outside UK. I feel he should be honest with the debtor and make arrangements to pay off the debt bit by bit. Take no notice of the amateur advice you have been given ( most of it is spelt wrong anyway.)

How do I go about attending college in a different county?
Q. How do I go about attending in community college in different county? I lived in Dallas County TX but I would like to attend college in Tarrent County TX because they have the class that I want. What if I registered using relatives or friends address in Tarrent county? Thank you all in advance.
Asked by Thank You - Thu Mar 5 17:33:59 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You can generally attend, it just costs more for out-of-area students; it depends on the college, though. I would suggest searching for the college's website (I don't know which one you may mean, so not so easy to look it up, where you likely already know the college's name so can search for it easily). Or, calling them and asking their admissions folks. If you're just looking to pay the in-area tuition, you will be asked to prove you live in the area -- for example, your driver's license with that address. If you can't officially prove you actually live there, you'll have to pay out-of-area tuition.

How do i change venue from county to county in California regarding child support/visitaion etc. if I have mov?
Q. ed to a new county. I am confused as form fl-560 is an ex parte. Do I file a order to show cause or notice of motion. To my understanding an ex parte is one party only. Thank you.

A. Ex parte can be mean with one party not present or all parties not present, meaning only the judge will be there to decide something, usually based on the pleadings of filings. If you are the one asking for the change, an order to show cause would be improper... that would be the response to an action.

A. Spark: You didn't mention a specific state or school, so I can't give you a specific answer - however, in general, the answer is "go live there for a year". Again, you didn't identify your specific school, but the general rule is that you must be able to demonstrate that you have been a legal resident of that specific county for at least 12 months prior to the start of the semester. Since you are already paying as an out-of-county resident, very few schools would be unobservant enough to fail to notice that you are suddenly claiming to have lived within the county for 12 months. You can't simply move in with another county resident - that doesn't get around the 12 month rule. IF you were to move to that county and collect some sort of… [cont.]

Are county health and human social services primarily only for women, children and the elderly?
Q. I am working class and couldn t afford mental health services for counseling on my own. I called county social services but unless I was a police code 5150, there didn t seem to be any social services counseling. A. It's never a mistake to try. Whether you qualify depends on your county. Usually there are some public mental health programs. For some, you have to be on public assistance. It depends a lot on where you are. I think you are in CA because you reference a CA police code. Look for the number for mental health services in your county. If they say you don't qualify, ask for referrals to other low cost providers- they should have phone numbers. Consider looking outside of public services, too. Often, clinics associated with universities will offer discounted/sliding scale services. Some non-profits also offer sliding scale fees. How do I get other property owners or the county to contribute money towrds building a bridge over a ditch?
Q. I own property that is currently not accessible by public roads. To get to the property (that is zoned residential) I have to build a bridge or culvert over a county owned canal. Can I get a grant from the county to build it or do I have to finance the project. If I have to self finance, can I charge other vacant land owners who, once the bridge is built will have access to their property? It doesn't seem fair.

A. The road is not ppublic, it is private. Therefore you pay for your private road. If your neighbors have easements to use the road it is a felony to charge them money to access their property.

What is the longest amount of time you can serve in a county jail?
Q. I always thought anything over a year (a year and a day) you would go to prison. Someone told me they were doing two consecutive years in a county jail. Since county time is so much harder than prison. What's the longest consecutive sentence you know of, that has been served in a county jail.
Asked by fluffy - Sat Dec 26 12:41:41 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Jail upon conviction of a crime is for misdemeanors, sentences less than a year. If a person is sentenced on multiple charges and ordered to serve the sentences consecutively, then he may serve several years in jail. One example is on a guy convicted of multiple charges of putting up hidden cameras in a tanning salon and recording unsuspecting customers. He was sentenced to five consecutive one year sentences. As far as prison being better than jail... it's true if you like getting your butt violated.

A. Costco is the cheapest, though it may not have all the brands. Sears have many brands to choose from, though not the cheapest. Try also Home Depot. Everywhere you go they'll try to get you to pay extra to sign up for extended warranty. Always decline that, because if it works during the normal warranty period, it will work much longer. Besides extended warranty is covered by the local shop, not the brand.

Does anyone know about transferring property taxes from one home to another in a different county ?
Q. There was a law or code passed that allowed a person to sell their home and when they moved out of county they could keep the tax rate they had on the first home. This was only possible if the county they moved to cooperated with the county they moved out of. Does anyone know what counties allow this in California?
Asked by Jonesy - Mon Jun 16 23:27:55 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In some counties in California, you may be able to transfer the assessed value of your current home with a lower value, but worth more than the assessed value of the current home in the same county. This allows an elderly person or couple to downsize to a smaller home but not pay higher taxes. The county's tax loss on the new home are more than offset by the increased taxes from the old one. If anyone reading this is not from California, don't try it in your state unless you have a system like ours.

What are the best places in Door County?
Q. Me and my wife are planning to drive up to Door County for a day or two, and I was wondering if you fine folk know of any places we should make sure to see. We like site seeing and good shopping of course with the misses :-) I don't mind going off the beaten path if there's something good. Thanks for your help!

A. - Make your way to Rock Island. It's hard to get to, and there's only camping, I think, but it's definitely a unique Wisconsin experience. - Newport State Park is very pleasant, and easy to get to, yet out of the way. Good if you fancy a long walk along Lake Michigan without many people around. Accomodations nearby, though on the expensive side. - Peninsula State Park is very popular and has it all. It's near the Fish Creek/Gibraltor area, so you can combine good accommodations, sightseeing and shopping if you just focus on this one area. - Sturgeon Bay is the hub of Door County, a nice town with a lot of nice B and Bs. It's the best place in Door County for shopping, and near Potawatomi State Park, which is a pleasant get-away. [cont.]
