Verbto auctioneer (third-person singular simple present auctioneers, present participle auctioneering, simple past and past participle auctioneered)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. An auction is a process of buying and selling goods or services by offering them up for bid, taking bids, and then selling the item to the highest bidder. In economic theory, an auction may refer to any mechanism or set of trading rules for exchange. There are several variations on the basic auction form, including time limits, minimum or maximum limits on bid prices, and special rules for determining the winning bidder(s) and sale price(s). Participants in an auction may or may not know the identities or actions of other participants. Depending on the auction, bidders may participate in person or remotely through a variety of means, including telephone and the internet. The seller usually pays a commission to the auctioneer or auction company based on a percentage of the final sale price. From Wikipedia under the

I will be starting an auctioneer business soon in NY and wondered what I would need for insurance. Any help or advice would be appreciated. You should contact at least 3 independent agents, and ask them for quotes. You will need some additional info like, estimated gross sales, estimated, payroll, employee count, and probably an exact location. Good luck in your new venture! Answered by mrratesjay - Tue Feb 26 23:22:14 2008 What is the typical charge for an auctioneer for an estate sale? Q. The departed's belongings (she had many!) will be inspected for value and then moved by the auctioneer to a community center. One auctioneer we considered charges a % fee, plus we/the customer pay for the hall ($160) plus advertising ($150 for the newspaper and internet). I am interested in others' experiences as far as what the appropiate/typical percentage split with the auctioneer should be. Or, if you are an auctioneer; pls let me know your % terms. Thanks! Auctioneer percentages will vary... but a good auctioneer will not cost you money... they will MAKE you money (and no, im not an auctioneer). I dont know the approximate value of the belongings, but $150 for an advertising budget does not sound like much. The auctioneer says that they are advertising on the internet... is that just their personal website or large auction websites like auctionzip.com (free) or the NAA website (free to NAA members)? You will probably not get auctioneers to publicly discuss their percentages in this format.
