An auction is a process of buying and selling goods or services by offering them up for bid, taking bids, and then selling the item to the higest bidder. In economic theory, an auction may refer to any mechanism or set of trading rules for exchange.

There are several variations on the basic auction form, including time limits, minimum or maximum limits on bid prices, and special rules for determining the winning bidder(s) and sale price(s). Participants in an auction may or may not know the identities or actions of other participants. Depending on the auction, bidders may participate in person or remotely through a variety of means, including telephone and the internet. The seller usually pays a commission to the auctioneer or auction company based on a percentage of the final sale price.

Regardless of who hold auctions, is the winning bid real the total cost of buying a house from the auction?
Q. I see these newspaper articles about real estate auctions. There are the regular county auctions (sheriffs auctions) that real estate companies buy to sell for profit later at their own house auctions. Regardless of who hold auctions, is the winning bid real the total cost of buying a house from the auction? Can you buy a house from an auction for say few thousands dollars? I can't google the real estate buying process. Where I can learn about the process of buying houses?

A. It's very difficult to actually get a house at auction at extremely low prices like that. I've been to quite a few and actually won the bid on a couple of them. BUT... where I'm at, there is a 10 day upset bid timeframe where anyone can outbid you still but they have to up it by 3%. Or the owner still has that time to pay the lender back. That's in the normal case of foreclosure. The sheriff auction thing does not state that there are no other leins or mortgages on the property. I talked to the sheriff about this before and they just won't say. You have to do your own title search before bidding on this. So the winning bid can be the total cost of the property if you make it past the hurdles. And it's hard to find any good info… [cont.]

How to find public auctions to buy unclaimed/unpaid for storage units in the Conroe/Houston, Tx area?
Q. We are looking to purchase storage units (unclaimed/unpaid) at auctions in the Conroe/Houston area and try to turn a profit by selling the items. Is there a good website to use in locating these? First time experience so any help getting started is MUCH appreciated!

A. In my area, the storage unit places are required to run an advertisement in the newspaper that they unit is going to be put up for auction. I've been to a few, mostly clothes and other people's junk.

How Come Used Japanese Cars Are So Popular At Auctions & Dealerships?
Q. I came across some pretty fantastic cars at Japanese auctions but sadly they were out of stock. BTW, how do you find out the quality of cars at used car auctions?
Asked by Lia A - Tue Sep 2 11:56:15 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Japanese cars are world famous for their quality and testing standards. Add to this the good roads in Japan, the 'drifting' culture, and the fact that the Japanese are fanatic about keeping their cars in top shape, and you've got a used car market that's a buyer's goldmine. If you're buying Japanese cars off the used car market, make a note of the Grade that indicates the health of the car. Grade 5 indicates the car is almost brand new while Grade 2 indicates an unsuitable car. Some of the best deals can be found at Grade 3.5 and above.
