How does an eBay seller get insurance for their product?
Q. I need full insurance coverage for the products I am selling. I need product, damage control, and postal insurance. Is there an all in one deal anywhere? I know buyers can obtain insurance on some products through ebay, but can sellers get insurance too while it's shipped to the buyer. Can Paypal or eBay cover it?

You can buy insurance when you print your packages online up to $500 for USPS packages and $1000 for UPS through Paypal shipping, USPS.com and UPS.com You can walk in packages more than that to the UPS store or the post office Personally, I think shipping insurance is a rip-off. I believe in self-insurance. If 1 or 2 packages a year get lost, I just take the loss and cover it with what I saved from the hundreds of packages that got to their destination without any insurance.

What are the best alternative online marketplaces to ebay?
Q. Or do they effectively have a monopoly? I now find that ebay's seller fees cut too far into my margins on low value items. To rub salt in my wounds, they charge again for accepting payment by Paypal (part of the same company). The final straw has come from them imposing tight limits on the number of responses a seller can make to enquiries after a listing expires or sells out. Ebay say this is to protect members from being spammed - Any fool can see it is really about protecting themselves from sales off ebay - leaving sellers with no means of contacting their potential customer. Recent fee increases have been ludicrously high, and I only hope that it backfires on them, with sellers doing as I am doing and seeking out an alternative. I… [cont.]

A. Hi Pete! Couple of ideas: 1) Try amazon.com - works similar to eBay's 'buy it now' concept. However they too charge fees that some may find exorbitant. 2) Open your OWN web store. Not as complicated as it sounds; you'll need a hosting company that provides free shopping cart / catalogue software. You could choose to get set up with a merchant account for credit cards, or just take payment by money order. That way, you're in control! How much to charge to sell items on Ebay for someone?
Q. I have a newer friend/acquaintance that asked if I would be willing to list some items on ebay for her (I buy and sell on ebay all of the time). She wants to give me a percentage of what sells. What is the norm for this? How much should I charge?
