An auction is a process of buying and selling goods or services by offering them up for bid, taking bids, and then selling the item to the highest bidder. In economic theory, an auction may refer to any mechanism or set of trading rules for exchange.

There are several variations on the basic auction form, including time limits, minimum or maximum limits on bid prices, and special rules for determining the winning bidder(s) and sale price(s). Participants in an auction may or may not know the identities or actions of other participants. Depending on the auction, bidders may participate in person or remotely through a variety of means, including telephone and the internet. The seller usually pays a commission to the auctioneer or auction company based on a percentage of the final sale price.

What is the amount the Auction House gets off an auction in WoW?
Q. How much does the auction house recieve from an auction? I know it depends on price but is their a certain percent they get from each auction? Would you lose more money from the auction house tax in one big auction or in a bunch of little auctions?

A. The Alliance and Horde Auction Houses would take 5% of the winning bid, while the Neutral Auction Houses would take 15%. Because it is a percentage of the winning bid, it'll cost the same in one big auction and if you split it into a bunch of little auctions.

What's the best way to earn gold on World of Warcraft that does not involve the Auction House?
Q. I'm looking for ways to earn gold in World of Warcraft that does not involve using the Auction House (the server is very young). Does anyone have any strategies for this? My character is level 25 right now. Thanks.

A. Short Answer: No, the auction house has always been my main source of income. White, Green and up items always sell at least 150% of vendor price. More thought-out answer: Aside from the auction house, questing can also be a source of income, as well as humanoid mobs. Humanoids almost always drop copper (and eventually) silver while Beast mobs (Spiders and boars, etc) usually just random body parts (which can still, and should, be sold anyways) Other than that, provided your not completely shunning the Auction House, I'd say sell any stacks of cloth you're not using, or other mats useful for other professions.

A. Best add-on for the Auction House is: "Auctioneer" You'll be able to rock the AH with that.
