In economics and game theory an all-pay auction, is an auction in which all bidders must pay regardless of whether they win the prize, which is awarded to the highest bidder as in a conventional auction. The all-pay auction is often used to model lobbying (bids are political contributions), or other competitions such as contests between animals. The most straightforward form of an all-pay auction is a Tullock auction, sometimes called a tullock lottery, in which everyone submits a bid but both the losers and the winners pay their submitted bids. This is instrumental in describing certain ideas in public choice economics. The dollar auction is a two player Tullock auction, or a multiplayer game in which only the two highest bidders pay their bids. Other forms of all-pay auctions exist, such as the war of attrition, in which the highest bidder wins, but all (or both, more typically) bidders pay only the lower bid. The war of attrition is used by biologists to model conventional contests, or agonistic interactions resolved without recourse to physical aggression. Commonplace practical examples of all-pay auctions can be found on several bidding fee auction websites. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What's a good eBay payment service other than PayPal, one which charges the fees to the buyer, not the seller? Q. I am tired of dealing with Paypal and the fees they charge sellers for use of the service. I sell items frequently on eBay, and would like to have a way to allow customers to pay instantly via a credit card or bank account, but I don't want to get charged a fee for accepting their payment. After all, paying with these methods is a convenience to the BUYER, not to the SELLER... so why should the seller have to pay? I know BidPay, through Western Union, used to work this way, but they recently closed down and relaunched their operation as a typical "PayPal clone," charging the fees to the sellers. There must be another, reputable service out there that does this (and which eBay allows). I've even tried tacking a "Paypal convenience fee"… [cont.] Asked by Kevin - Fri Oct 20 21:47:40 2006 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments A. Nope, they all work the same way these days. Just up your shipping and handling to compensate for the fee's. Thats what I did, works fine for me. As Gawd aweful as paypal has become over the last few years, they are still #1, and still have the lowest fee's that I know of. Answered by 011101 - Fri Oct 20 21:57:12 2006 Foreclosures and age? Q. Well, I'm 17 and I have about 2-3 friends who are willing to buy a house from me. I saw on the tv that you can get a foreclosed house for as cheap as 200/month, which I thought was great. However I've been looking into this and it seems I can buy it at actions 'as is' (which would mean I'd need the money), go directly to the lender and pay it off (and all pay-lag mortgages) and I could probably get it inspected, or go threw a bank's broker which would be the safest but also cost the most. Anyways I was wondering which would be the best for someone whose looking for a cheap-house (broken heaters and little things we don't care about) and some place to live and any suggestions or tips at all about purchasing foreclosed houses. Also, I was… [cont.] Asked by jamkoolio - Tue Dec 15 23:56:30 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Before you purchase any foreclosed property at auction, you would be foolish if you did not have a title search (exam) done. Contact a real estate attorney or title company. Have them check the title to see if there are any defects, other liens, judgments, easements, restrictions, zoning limitations, real estate tax arrearages, boundary line disputes or reversion clauses. The title exam should also confirm that the foreclosure was properly performed. If the property is a condo or part of a planned unit development, it may also be subject to association dues, assessments or special levys. Find out what the municipal taxes are and how much you will need to pay after you acquire the property. Ownership of real estate if you are younger tan… [cont.] Answered by Thomas T - Wed Dec 16 00:08:45 2009 Is it appropriate for me to report this Ebay buyer for not paying?
Q. I know it's only the 9th. I sent the buyer an invoice on January 6th immediately after the auction ended, specifying the total payment amount and giving my paypal email address for them to send payment to. It's not a huge item - it's only 10 bucks. I've sold similar items to about 10 other people and they all paid pretty rapidly (at least within 1-2 days after auction. My listing specifically states "Payment must be received within 2 days after winning the auction. The item will ship within 3 days after payment is received." I've had no payment from this user. They have a 100% feedback score, but their feedback is only 1. I sent them the typical payment invoice right after the auction ended on January 6th. I sent them a second message on… [cont.] Asked by Anonymous - Fri Jan 9 17:42:39 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments From Yahoo Answer Search: "All-pay auction" The News Merchant - The Atlantic
